Property managers

Create a property manager

Adds a colleague to the company and creates the MagicDoor sign-in that goes with them. The new property manager starts with every menu open and every permission granted. The response carries their password — it is the only time you can read it.

POST
https://api.portal.magicdoor.com/company-app/property-managers

Authorization

Authorizationstringrequired
Bearer token — Send your API token in the Authorization header as Bearer <token>. Requests without a valid token are rejected with 401 Unauthorized.

Body

application/json

firstName and email are required. The email must not already belong to another active property manager in the company, and the phone, if sent, must not already belong to anyone in the company.

firstNamestringrequired

Given name. 1 to 150 characters.

lastNamestring

Family name. 1 to 150 characters.

emailstring · emailrequired

Email address. This is also the name they will sign in with.

phonestring

Phone number. Must be a valid number.

clearTextPasswordstring

The password to give them. 1 to 150 characters. Leave it out and MagicDoor generates one, which comes back in the response.

Response

200 · The new property manager, plus the password they will sign in with.

idstring

The new property manager. This is also their MagicDoor user id.

emailstring

Email address, which is also the name they sign in with.

firstNamestring

Given name.

lastNamestring

Family name. Absent when you sent none.

activeboolean

Always true for a property manager that was just created.

createdstring · date-time

When the property manager was added.

lastSeenstring · date-time

When they last used the company portal. Always absent here — they have not signed in yet.

namestring

firstName and lastName joined with a space.

clearTextPasswordstringrequired

The password they can now sign in with — either the one you sent or the one MagicDoor generated. Returned here and nowhere else. No example value is shown.

409 · The email address already belongs to another active property manager in the company, or the phone number already belongs to someone in the company. `detail` tells you which. Read `entityType` with care: on this particular error it carries the offending email address or phone number rather than a type name, and `entityId` comes back empty.

401 · The access token is missing, expired, or does not belong to a property manager.

A new property manager can do everything

The account is created with the wildcard permission * and with every menu open. Until you narrow it, the person you just added has the same reach over the company's data as the person who added them. Set their permissions, property access and menu access straight after creating them.

The password is in the response

clearTextPassword holds the sign-in password in clear text. It is returned once, at creation, and no endpoint will give it to you again. The example above deliberately leaves it out.

This response is narrower than the others

It carries only the fields listed above. companyId, phone, imageId and image are part of the standard property manager object but are never filled in here, so they are absent from this response even when you sent a phone number. Read the property manager back with get a property manager if you need the full record.

A property manager is always created inside the calling company. There is no way to add one to a different company through this endpoint.
